Rejoining my local aviation Society – U.A.S ( Ulster Aviation Society )

getting back to being interested in real life aviation as well as sims so ive rejoined my local aviation Society , The Ulster Aviation Society .

Last I was with them was 20 years ago when they were based at Langford Lodge , and old ww2 B-17 base before the aircraft were dispersed to their actual fields in England . My grandfather worked on that base as a civilian contractor in ww2 and is still there , although the society had to decant to another ww2 base at the Maze , Lisburn when Langford Lodges current owners wished to expand their ejector seat operation.

I’m excited to see the new home of the society and I can highly recommend anyone based in NI to support this society ( i had been meaning to rejoin for about 10 years ) , an absolute bargain at ยฃ26 for the family .

IL2 C47’s paratroop drop looks amazing !

well done Il2 , this looks fantastic , I can only hope the c47s have this ability added soon in DCS , the dday operation we worked on and the guys at 4ya executed so well , without the ability to drop paratroopers is a tad annoying ๐Ÿ˜‰ Its still awesome but heres hoping ED enable this soon.

Gorey , Gorey , what a hell of a way to die …

Gore … or lack of gore … in ww2 combat simulators ….

I asked an interesting question over on ED forums , Hoggit and 4ya ww2 discord , whether dcs should have a stronger visual indicator that the pilot has taken some critical damage leading to a pilot kill.

The responses varied from positive , neutral to negative , with some responses indicating it would make them feel sick .

I’m curious why in flight sims users are a lot more squeamish than “grunt simulators” like day of infamy , COD ww2 , Postscriptum , Hell Let loose et al … some of the death effects in those are positively ptsd inducing … but why as a user base are we so averse to see the ultimate outcome of what we are trying to achieve…

I am also keen to have war , and the serious consequences that arise from partaking in war , correctly represented when ultimately it doesn’t go your way .

wise words from walsh lol

I modified the image above , a still taken from this excellent video https://youtu.be/xbEW3Bi1Gpo , the clear damaged canopy effect made me think this would only require some simple modification to that texture to implement this immediately to those cockpits that have glass damage modelled .

Now don’t get me wrong , I hate blood , specifically the sight of my own blood …especially when a doctors sucking it from a vain with a syringe ( I passed out as a kid when i looked at it drip into the test tube – the thick syrup like consistency completely blew my mind ) so I can see why this would be off putting for some , although I am also keen to have war , and the serious consequences that arise from partaking in war , correctly represented when ultimately it doesn’t go your way . I was once that impressionable kid that though war was like videogames … many years later and having watched from afar many poor young people have their lives blighted by war , I’m all for having the option to display it , and the circumstances the heros we try to emulate found themselves facing , represented here in our favourite air combat sim .

Cheers all , Walsh , Out.

Day of Infamy … lets make it no 1 for christmas ;)

day of Infamy , what an excellent little ww2 shooter , its popularity has waned in the past few years and its not up to call of duty ww2 in terms of graphics , but as far as an experience goes , its superior in my opinion , add in some superb mods and great teamwork and you have one super solid little ww2 shooter that runs well evenon low spec machines … also a total bargain on G2A at less than ยฃ2 … cant say fairer than that really ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy folks .
