Server update .

so after recent testing , failing , trial and error and failing some more , I’m back at editing this beast and restructuring the mission to fit the moose framework , it seems very promising and although a steep learning curve it seems to be ideal for what I would like to achieve.

If anyone has moose skills and would like to get involved I will be happy to hear from you , still lots to do but I hope the end result of a very immersive dday experience for dcs ww2 and as a vr user I hope to have it optimised for fps if all goes to plan.

Heres a taster…

Mods , mission development and testing

evening all , just some update son the mission Development , Lulworth continues to be the literal testbed for new mission features , mods , skin alterations and f10 menu alterations , the progress with th use of AI has been fantastic and I hope to get some players on for some testing soon but in the meantime here some youtube shorts for a flavour of whats to come 🙂

Above -WW2 Adinfinitum tank crew mod – this is built into the mission so no need for client side mods althoough there will be some of those for the best experience.

Above -WW2 Adinfinitum AA crew mod – this is built into the mission so no need for client side mods althoough there will be some of those for the best experience.

Above -WW2 Adinfinitum Tank crew mod – this is built into the mission so no need for client side mods althoough there will be some of those for the best experience. My commander tried to warn me but I just couldnt see the Panzer in the trees 😉

Long range firing : in this case i had already fired around 10 shots to get the range right but yes , very long range gunnery is possible and artillery is availble so real kill zones can be set up on the approach to key objectives .

4ya servers to close in November …

just heard this shocking news about a real cornerstone of the DCS online fraternity closing on November 1st , having worked with them briefly a number of years ago after Storm of war closed its shutters and project overlord took over the reins for quality ww2 dcs servers 24/7 with 4yas infrastructure and management experience I can confirm they are a super professional organisation and their loss will be felt across all theatres of DCS online multiplayer . The good news is that Project Overlord looks like it will come back in its independant form and that brings with it exciting possibilities . Onwards and upwards and clear skies all . S!

DCS World’s [4YA] servers are shutting down in November

One of DCS World’s most prolific server groups is [4YA] who have grown to host 30 DCS World focused servers with their own custom missions and architecture. For a variety of reasons, the server group has announced that they are shutting down in November. Here’s what you need to know.

Server shutdown coming

Log in to DCS World’s multiplayer server browser and you’ll be greeted by quite a few servers but none more prolific than the 30 servers that the [4YA] group operate. This dedicated community of DCS World sim pilots have been maintaining the servers since 2019 and they have evolved over the years to support various types of missions including PvE scenarios.

The shut down has been precipitated by the resignation of “Lurcher”, the primary author of the groups PvE and PvPvE missions scripts as well as custom infrastructure that has helped to maintain the 30 servers that they operate. The departure is driven, according to Lurcher’s statement, by personal changes in his real world situation as well as administrative and staff struggles within the group.

The departure announcement was followed by messaging from another [4YA] staff member, “Sir Rhino,” who provided confirmation that the servers would shut down.

While 4YA is coming to an end, I want to thank each of you for your understanding, your encouragement, and for those that already knew this was coming—thank you for your messages of support and understanding.

Looking ahead, I hope that the community spirit we’ve built here continues on, whether in new endeavours or within other groups and doesn’t have to end with this chapter.

Finally, I want to say a sincere thank you to all the staff in 4YA for giving up their time and assisting making this community run smoothly. It’s been my honour to fly alongside you all.

[4YA] [TN] Sir Rhino via Discord

The shutdown is expected to take place on November 1st and that refunds will be issued to people who have donated through GTX after November 1st. More, the groups PvE mission set will reportedly be released so that others can continue to enjoy the missions that have been created to date.

There is some bright spots in the announcement as both Aerobatics Online and Project Overlord servers, which were originally independent and joined [4YA] for support, will once again be operating on their own and will continue to exist into the future.

You can read the statements on the group’s Discord if you’re a member or through their website.

The news is troubling for the DCS World community as a major group of servers goes offline. Though many other communities exist and will no doubt pick up players, it is nonetheless a reminder that most of these servers operate thanks to volunteers donating countless hours to make them possible.

Server progress – a taste of things to find in WW2 adinfinitum ….

WW2 ADInfinitum ;OVERLORD: NORMANDY — Mission Handbook

A pilot’s and commander’s guide to the WW2 Adinfinitum D-Day server.

1. What this server is about

It’s 02:00 on 6 June 1944. The airborne assault is already in the air. By dawn, five beaches will be under fire, and by the time you read this, the outcome is no longer scripted — it’s whatever the two sides of this server actually do.

This isn’t a scripted, linear campaign. It’s a living front: 18 strategic objectives change hands based on who actually holds ground there, reinforcements are a resource commanders spend deliberately, and the German rear area is full of real, attackable targets — supply routes, ammunition dumps, staff cars, and river crossings — that matter far beyond their own defenses. A fighter pilot who never fires at a “primary objective” can still swing the entire battle by cutting the right bridge at the right time.

The two sides’ aims are asymmetric, on purpose:

  • Allies: break out of the beachhead, capture the 18 strategic points, and strangle the German rear by cutting transport and supply. Time and momentum favor you the longer the front keeps moving inland.
  • Axis: hold the Atlantic Wall, counter-attack lost ground, and keep your reinforcement network intact. Time favors you if the Allied advance stalls and your interior lines stay open.

2. The scoring system

There are two separate numbers per side, and understanding the difference between them is the single most useful thing in this handbook.

Reinforcement Points — your side’s “wallet”

  • Both sides start with 300 points.
  • Every objective you hold generates points automatically, once per minute, for as long as you hold it. Bigger, more important objectives (Caen, Cherbourg, Pointe du Hoc) generate more than smaller ones.
  • Capturing a new objective pays an immediate one-time bonus.
  • Points are what you spend. Open the F10 radio menu → Command HQ → Call Reinforcements, and any connected player on your side can spend the pool to spawn infantry, tanks, recon vehicles, or artillery into your nearest held objective.
  • Losing a unit costs your side points, scaled by how expensive that unit was (losing a Tiger or a Sherman stings; losing a rifleman barely registers).

Practical meaning: Reinforcement Points are short-term and renewable. Spend them. A point pool sitting unspent doesn’t help anyone — it’s not a score, it’s a resource.

Victory Tickets — your side’s “lifeblood”

  • Both sides start with 1000 tickets.
  • Tickets only go down from combat losses (again scaled by unit cost) and only go up from real battlefield wins: capturing an objective, completing a pop-up mission, or cutting a bridge.
  • There is no “spending” tickets on purpose — they’re the actual scoreboard.
  • Every 5 minutes (and immediately at 25% and 10% remaining) your side gets an F10 popup showing current tickets, points, and how many objectives you hold.
  • If your tickets hit zero, the round is over. The other side gets a real victory screen and sound, and the round locks — no more reinforcements, no more missions, until an admin restarts.

Practical meaning: every unit you lose recklessly is permanent damage to your own side’s win condition, not just an inconvenience. Every unit you destroy is permanent damage to theirs. This is why picking your fights — and picking soft, high-value targets over costly frontal assaults — matters so much (see Section 4).

3. The missions

The 18 strategic objectives (the main map)

Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches; Pointe du Hoc; Sainte-Mère- Église; Carentan; Saint-Lô; Caen/Carpiquet; Cherbourg; Avranches; Argentan; Flers; Dinan; and the Channel Islands (Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey). All start German-held. Control flips automatically when one side has ground troops present in the zone and the other doesn’t — no special action needed beyond physically holding the ground.

Not every objective is defended from the first minute. Garrisons at objectives away from the immediate beachhead only “wake up” once a player actually gets close — a fast, unsupported push to a distant objective can catch it undefended, which is a real tactic, not a bug.

Mini-objectives (quick, generic)

Roughly every 8 minutes, a random objective gets a short-lived flavor task: a recon target to locate, a skirmish patrol to destroy, or a small garrison raid. These are quick bonus opportunities, not essential, but free points/tickets for whoever’s nearby and looking.

Intelligence chains (the big pop-up missions)

This is where the interesting stuff lives. Roughly every 90 seconds, a side that doesn’t already have one running has a chance of a new three-stage intelligence chain starting, announced with a proper “intel report” message:

  1. Resistance Support Requested — a French Resistance cell appears somewhere inland. Protect them for 15 minutes and they hand over what they know.
  2. Munitions Drop — the intel points to a German supply/ammunition position. Destroy it within 15 minutes.
  3. Target of Opportunity — the strongest lead yet: a German staff car, “believed to be carrying a senior officer,” moving along a road. Find and destroy the column within 15 minutes for the single largest individual mission reward in the game.

Complete all three in order and you get a large bonus on top of the individual rewards — this is the single most valuable thing an organized flight or squad can do in one sitting. Each side runs one chain at a time, independently.

4. How to actually make a difference (this is the important part)

New players tend to assume the only thing that matters is capturing beaches and shooting down enemy planes. Those matter, but they’re not where an individual pilot or small flight has the most leverage. The real force-multiplier on this server is interdiction: hitting the enemy’s ability to move, supply, and reinforce, rather than fighting his forward units directly. This mirrors what the real Allied air forces actually did in the run-up to and during the invasion (the historical “Transportation Plan”) — and it’s mechanically real here, not just flavor text.

Destroy bridges — this is a genuinely permanent effect

Nine real historical crossings are on the map as actual destructible targets, and destroying one permanently blocks vehicle traffic across that crossing for the rest of the round — this isn’t cosmetic, DCS’s own AI pathing treats it as genuinely impassable once it’s down. There’s no repair. A bridge you cut at 03:00 stays cut until the round ends.

CrossingRiverWhy it matters
Pegasus BridgeCaen CanalThe very route the British 6th Airborne fought to secure first — cutting it now denies the same route to German counter-attacks
Horsa BridgeRiver OrnePaired with Pegasus, same tactical value
La FièreMerderetThe 82nd Airborne’s bloodiest river fight — still the key route west of Sainte-Mère-Église
Chef-du-PontMerderetA second Merderet crossing; cutting both isolates German forces west of the river
Carentan CausewayDouveThe main approach into Carentan — cut it to strand any German armor trying to relieve the town
IsignyVire/AureThe direct link between the Omaha and Utah sectors
Saint-LôVireA major road/rail junction — cutting it disrupts German lateral movement across the whole front
Caen (Orne)OrneThe direct inland route from Sword/Juno
AvranchesSéeHistorically the single most important chokepoint for the later breakout — denying it now has an outsized effect

How: each bridge is a real target unit (a checkpoint/control-point structure standing at the crossing) visible on the F10 map with a BRIDGE_ name. Bomb it, strafe it, or bring artillery to bear — any weapon that kills the target counts. You’ll get an immediate, loud confirmation (*** CROSSING CUT ***) broadcast to the whole server, plus points and tickets.

Tactical implication: cutting a bridge doesn’t just deny that one road — it can strand German reinforcements on the wrong side of a river entirely, forcing them into a long detour (or no route at all) while your side pushes elsewhere. A single successful bridge strike can be worth more to the overall battle than an entire sortie of air-to-air kills.

Sink the landing craft — this is a real, targeted incentive

Higgins boats aren’t scenery — each one is physically carrying supplies toward a specific beach, and if it survives long enough to actually sit in the beachhead zone for a few seconds, that beach’s ongoing reinforcement income goes up permanently for the rest of the round, on top of an immediate points bonus. Axis pilots get a direct warning the moment a boat starts its final approach — that’s your signal to intercept. Destroy it before it finishes unloading and the bonus never happens at all; there’s no partial credit for a boat that almost made it. A single strafing run on an inbound landing craft can be worth more than an entire patrol’s worth of air-to-air kills.

Hit supply and storage, not just front-line units

The Munitions Drop stage of every intelligence chain is exactly this: a real German supply position, marked and time-limited. Beyond that, garrison compositions at every objective include artillery and support vehicles alongside infantry and armor — killing the artillery and soft-skin support vehicles first, before the tanks, degrades that position’s ability to resist a ground assault far more than trading shots with its Tiger.

Hunt targets of opportunity

The staff-car stage of the intelligence chain is deliberately the biggest single reward in the mission. A moving, lightly-escorted column is genuinely more fragile than a dug-in position — a fast flight of fighters or a well-placed artillery strike can end it in seconds if you find it before the 15-minute window closes.

Support the ground push, don’t just duel in the air

Every captured objective pays both sides’ scoreboards (points and tickets) automatically. A CAS run that clears a garrison ahead of an advancing ground element converts directly into territory, which converts directly into your side’s ongoing points income. Air-to-air kills matter for map control and protecting your own strike aircraft, but they don’t move the F10 map by themselves — ground control does.

Watch your own tickets, not just theirs

Because tickets only ever go down, the side that fights efficiently — picking winnable engagements, disengaging from bad ones, hitting soft targets before hard ones — will usually beat the side that just has more raw kills but bleeds tickets doing it. A bridge kill costs the enemy real, permanent capability for zero risk to your own ticket count if you do it from the air. That’s usually the better trade than a low-altitude gun run on a flak-defended position.

5. Quick reference

  • F10 → Command HQ → Call Reinforcements — spend Reinforcement Points to spawn units at your nearest held objective.
  • F10 → Command HQ → Check Reinforcement Points — see your current balance any time.
  • Objectives, mini-objectives, and intelligence chains all announce themselves with in-game messages — watch chat/message log, you won’t need to hunt for what’s active.
  • Combined Arms module is required to occupy ground vehicle slots — ask an admin if your slot appears greyed out.
  • All player aircraft/vehicles are on a single shared radio frequency so coordination actually works across the whole side.
  • Weather is set to real historical conditions from the actual morning of 6 June 1944 — overcast, gusty northwesterly wind, reduced visibility. It’s not a bug if it’s not clear-and-a-million.
  • Airfield fuel and munitions stocks are finite, not unlimited, at every airfield both sides actually use — don’t assume infinite resupply is guaranteed all round.

Good hunting — and remember, the bridge you don’t bother destroying is the one the enemy’s reinforcements will use against you an hour later.
