4YA WWII ARCHIVE – march 2022 user photos montage
cracking photos from the pilots using 4YA WW2 from back in march 2022 .
One from the archive – Feb 2022 4YA wwii 100 player event.
Epic stuff from the then newborn ww2 server following the closure of Storm of War .
Great job then and since , onwards and upwards ๐ Cheers.
Some recent WWII action over on 4YA ww2 … 109 go brrrrt!!
some firepower on the 109 k4 … shame it has limited ammo … really nice plane in dcs .
Gorey , Gorey , what a hell of a way to die …
Gore … or lack of gore … in ww2 combat simulators ….
I asked an interesting question over on ED forums , Hoggit and 4ya ww2 discord , whether dcs should have a stronger visual indicator that the pilot has taken some critical damage leading to a pilot kill.
The responses varied from positive , neutral to negative , with some responses indicating it would make them feel sick .
I’m curious why in flight sims users are a lot more squeamish than “grunt simulators” like day of infamy , COD ww2 , Postscriptum , Hell Let loose et al … some of the death effects in those are positively ptsd inducing … but why as a user base are we so averse to see the ultimate outcome of what we are trying to achieve…
I am also keen to have war , and the serious consequences that arise from partaking in war , correctly represented when ultimately it doesn’t go your way .
wise words from walsh lol

I modified the image above , a still taken from this excellent video https://youtu.be/xbEW3Bi1Gpo , the clear damaged canopy effect made me think this would only require some simple modification to that texture to implement this immediately to those cockpits that have glass damage modelled .
Now don’t get me wrong , I hate blood , specifically the sight of my own blood …especially when a doctors sucking it from a vain with a syringe ( I passed out as a kid when i looked at it drip into the test tube – the thick syrup like consistency completely blew my mind ) so I can see why this would be off putting for some , although I am also keen to have war , and the serious consequences that arise from partaking in war , correctly represented when ultimately it doesn’t go your way . I was once that impressionable kid that though war was like videogames … many years later and having watched from afar many poor young people have their lives blighted by war , I’m all for having the option to display it , and the circumstances the heros we try to emulate found themselves facing , represented here in our favourite air combat sim .
Cheers all , Walsh , Out.
4k VR Capture – DCS normandy free flight
these settings were also smooth in 4ya ww2 ( not very busy at time to be fair so may need tweaked when busy) .
Its sounds and atmosphere like this that keeps me coming back to dcs … truly amazing.
il2 Sturmovik – Great battles – content envy
Ok … I’ll not lie … seeing all the new content for IL2 great battles makes me sick and green with Envy … it looks gorgeous … Normandy looks fantastic and its C47s can now drop paratroopers … man it just makes me sick with envy ๐
… my first major flight sim love was the original il2 Sturmovik , its graphics , feel , look , just the whole feel was the best combat flight sim at the time . i spent many a teenage year flying it , then i moved on to other sims , racing sims , shooters , civilian flight sims , cliffs of dover … IL2 games always seemed to deliver . The current one seems to be no exception … however ( there’s always a however isn’t there ) … there’s something … missing. I cant put my finger on it …. the maps are great , seasons are modelled , great weather effects , ai unit count that I’m so jealous of , c47s that actually drop parachutists ( nudge nudge ED ๐ on paper it just looks like a really fleshed out ww2 combat flight sim . I own it and granted , havent flown it for a while ( currently downloading for a refresher ) but the thing that seemed so lacking was flight dynamics , the fighters felt much too stable and not alive at all… granted I’ve been flying dcs for years and find its physics great , but jumping on to IL2 the planes feel … well …. dead . I’m not sure if its a setup thing , possibly the fact that all the controls need bound to a key ( I’m a huge fan of using the mouse in vr in dcs to adjust most in cockpit items and it works fantastically well ) .
IL2 is the gateway drug to DCS , good to get you started , great for content variety and a stepping stone to more serious sims … not worse , or better … just different …
Now the old excuse used to be “well , IL2 , you get the whole game and a tonne of planes for ยฃ30” or whatever the price was so you put up with a lower fidelity module … but looking at the current business model and prices for IL2 modules , they arent far off ED sales prices for modules. So are the two starting to cross over into each others territory / price bands ?
DCS , love it or loathe it ( I often swing from each emotion where DCS is concerned ๐ its a great sim … the areas in which it lacks are many … but there’s just something that feels right about it .
Part of me wishes ED and IL2 would get together and make the ultimate high fidelity ww2 combat flight sim with a low enough entry cost to attract lots of players ( IL2’s former biggest asset ) , DCS’s free trials and sales are levelling that slightly ( DCS still is not attractive at all for new sim pilots and as a dad , if my son asked for a cfs it would be il2 all the way for value reasons alone ๐ but therein lies the rub … DCS , high price , high fidelity modules requiring a very high power /price rig to run … its basically the grown up cfs on the market isn’t it ?
IL2 is the gateway drug to DCS , good to get you started , great for content variety and a stepping stone to more serious sims … not worse , or better … just different …
although I really do wish there was more ai content for DCS … progress is steady ( if a bit slow for my …. the best solution I can think of for now is to buy both , support our community and the games / genre we love and enjoy all for what they offer … as they really are chalk and cheese and each excel in different areas.

Cheers all , Walsh … Out.
Anton Buzzsaw …. vs Clipped wing spit .. savage .
another one … its so sneaky … i love it lol …
