Server update .

so after recent testing , failing , trial and error and failing some more , I’m back at editing this beast and restructuring the mission to fit the moose framework , it seems very promising and although a steep learning curve it seems to be ideal for what I would like to achieve.

If anyone has moose skills and would like to get involved I will be happy to hear from you , still lots to do but I hope the end result of a very immersive dday experience for dcs ww2 and as a vr user I hope to have it optimised for fps if all goes to plan.

Heres a taster…

WW2 Ad Infinitum – more triggers and testing … going well .

some screenshots from the dusk of 5th June 1944 … watching this transition to darkness is eerie and fantastic in equal measure .

the triggers and conditions for lsts to higgins craft then disembarking are set and seem to work ok , now just to get respawns and spawning of random gound units set up to make it feel like a battlefront , nothing easy in DCS but there will be a way . Cheers all.

WW2 Ad Infinitum DCS Server – development progress – **GALLERY 300MB**

well folks Ive had my head buried in the DCS mission editor , mist guide , .lua guides , forums etc etc and now my head hurts 😉 But there has been good progress to be fair – units are in the majority set , scripts and mission mechanics / scoring system / mission win / lose conditions being set , work to do includes respawn random ai ground , air and naval units . Capture points , custom audio for some of these objective points – and all this while trying to keep the .miz file as small as possible. Radios are now set to communicate with “FAC” Forward air controller vehicles , and now to make all actions contribute to overall minnsion win / success ( including loss of airframes / vehicles leading to ticketlosses for your side ) .

I wont lie , ive really bit off a big mouthful here but once you get into it the editor is extremely addictive ( and frustrating in equal measure) but hoping to get something playable out there soon.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – huge props to server owners / runners out there , amazing work you all do . S!

Walsh.

playing through , testing , learning – its been slow but getting there – and man dcs on the ground is pretty great – hopefully some more ww2 CA assets can relly ring this to life – for now some modern assets need to fill the gap ( cough cough ships / gliders / infantry 😉

WW2 Ad Infinitum Server – Mission progress ;

Well , its been a rough 10 days and I’m still learning … but wow … dcs mission editor is powerful .

I’ve rebuilt this mission 3 times by now and am learning triggers slowly , but this is amazing – adding units , messages , images and trying to paint a picture for players of a plausible D-Day scenario in DCS is hard…. but hopefully I’m getting close. ( Ps- Nightowl – you were right , its a nightmare lol )

So heres the status , currently trying to setup a plausible scenario with mission assets including warehouses etcthat may lead to a persistent environment across missions , I hope to start the scenario the day before D-Day with recon flights and the obligatory paratroop mission to the Cotentin Peninsula , leading into deception flights and air bombardment of key infrastructure to set the scene for the invasion – if certain objectives aren’t accomplished the landing vessels may need to turn back , I hope for all objectives to lead to live alternate outcomes per mission ( ability pending lol ) . There will be armored columns , objectives to capture that will need resupplied , combined arms will allow you to drive the vehicles or command units and coordinate air strikes or as axis to ruin the allies picnic and destroy them on the beaches just as Rommel planned … what I’ve set out to do may not be possible .. but I’m gonna try … and if I cant , well then all of you can watch me fail 😉 ( or feel free to contact me with any skills you can provide to help bring my vision to realisation ) .

Cheers all , Walsh , Out.

Dcs public server test … harder than it looks lol

So I tried to add an immersive multiplayer dday scenario for dcs, 850 units with a lot going on and it performed reasonably well.. I’ll work on it as something a bit different including combined arms game master slots and combined arms vehicle and tank slots … total noob at mission design but hopefully its something we can have a go at from time to time. Cheers.

Server is online now with no scoring system , objectives or end criteria… but still good fun. Cheers.

Day of Infamy … lets make it no 1 for christmas ;)

day of Infamy , what an excellent little ww2 shooter , its popularity has waned in the past few years and its not up to call of duty ww2 in terms of graphics , but as far as an experience goes , its superior in my opinion , add in some superb mods and great teamwork and you have one super solid little ww2 shooter that runs well evenon low spec machines … also a total bargain on G2A at less than £2 … cant say fairer than that really 🙂

Enjoy folks .

il2 Sturmovik – Great battles – content envy

Ok … I’ll not lie … seeing all the new content for IL2 great battles makes me sick and green with Envy … it looks gorgeous … Normandy looks fantastic and its C47s can now drop paratroopers … man it just makes me sick with envy 😉

… my first major flight sim love was the original il2 Sturmovik , its graphics , feel , look , just the whole feel was the best combat flight sim at the time . i spent many a teenage year flying it , then i moved on to other sims , racing sims , shooters , civilian flight sims , cliffs of dover … IL2 games always seemed to deliver . The current one seems to be no exception … however ( there’s always a however isn’t there ) … there’s something … missing. I cant put my finger on it …. the maps are great , seasons are modelled , great weather effects , ai unit count that I’m so jealous of , c47s that actually drop parachutists ( nudge nudge ED 😉 on paper it just looks like a really fleshed out ww2 combat flight sim . I own it and granted , havent flown it for a while ( currently downloading for a refresher ) but the thing that seemed so lacking was flight dynamics , the fighters felt much too stable and not alive at all… granted I’ve been flying dcs for years and find its physics great , but jumping on to IL2 the planes feel … well …. dead . I’m not sure if its a setup thing , possibly the fact that all the controls need bound to a key ( I’m a huge fan of using the mouse in vr in dcs to adjust most in cockpit items and it works fantastically well ) .

IL2 is the gateway drug to DCS , good to get you started , great for content variety and a stepping stone to more serious sims … not worse , or better … just different …

Now the old excuse used to be “well , IL2 , you get the whole game and a tonne of planes for £30” or whatever the price was so you put up with a lower fidelity module … but looking at the current business model and prices for IL2 modules , they arent far off ED sales prices for modules. So are the two starting to cross over into each others territory / price bands ?

DCS , love it or loathe it ( I often swing from each emotion where DCS is concerned 😉 its a great sim … the areas in which it lacks are many … but there’s just something that feels right about it .

Part of me wishes ED and IL2 would get together and make the ultimate high fidelity ww2 combat flight sim with a low enough entry cost to attract lots of players ( IL2’s former biggest asset ) , DCS’s free trials and sales are levelling that slightly ( DCS still is not attractive at all for new sim pilots and as a dad , if my son asked for a cfs it would be il2 all the way for value reasons alone 😉 but therein lies the rub … DCS , high price , high fidelity modules requiring a very high power /price rig to run … its basically the grown up cfs on the market isn’t it ?

IL2 is the gateway drug to DCS , good to get you started , great for content variety and a stepping stone to more serious sims … not worse , or better … just different …

although I really do wish there was more ai content for DCS … progress is steady ( if a bit slow for my …. the best solution I can think of for now is to buy both , support our community and the games / genre we love and enjoy all for what they offer … as they really are chalk and cheese and each excel in different areas.

Cheers all , Walsh … Out.

vanguard Normandy 1944 – Livestream ( this game needs , no … deserves players so badly !!)

so had a blast over on vanguard normandy 1944 public test online , sadly no players apart from a dev but we had a blast – I really hope this game gains some traction as it really deserves it – basic enough to just go on and have a blast but if the servers were well populated this game would be the dogs proverbials … if you buy it , be prepared for quiet servers preventing play unless minimum numbers met ( devs please sort this out ) but when you do get in its totally worth it , a real gem of a ww2 game . And for te price of a fe coffees or one Dublin pint ( lol ) its a total bargain…. A+++ recommended .
